Russia has covertly given at least $300 million to political parties, officials and politicians in more than two dozen countries since 2014, and plans to transfer hundreds of millions more, with the goal of exerting political influence and swaying elections, according to a State Department summary of a recent U.S. intelligence review.

Russia has probably given even more that has gone undetected, the document said.

50 Million People Live Under Modern Day Slavery

Fifty million people around the world are trapped in modern slavery, either forced to work against their will or forced into a marriage, according to new global estimates, marking a significant rise over the past five years.

The number of people trapped in forced labour, including sex trafficking, rose to 28 million, with a further 22 million trapped in forced marriage, says a report published on Monday by the International Labour Organization, International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the anti-trafficking human rights group Walk Free.

The new estimates found that 10 million more people had fallen victim to forms of modern slavery in 2021 compared with 2016, with women and children the most badly affected.

Unarmed West Virginia man shot with no Warning in front of Family at a Funeral

This smells like an execution and then a coverup:

Jason Arnie Owens helped carry his father’s casket to the hearse, then turned to embrace a relative. He never made it to the cemetery.

As mourners gathered outside a northern West Virginia funeral home on Aug. 24, two plainclothes officers with a fugitive warrant swooped in from separate vehicles, called Owens’ name and shot him dead, spattering his 18-year-old son’s shirt with blood as horrified loved ones looked.

“There was no warning whatsoever,” family friend Cassandra Whitecotton said.

In the blink of an eye, stunned friends and family already mourning one member lost another. Now, they want answers — not just why Owens was shot but why the encounter happened the way it did.

Law enforcement officials aren’t explaining much right now, citing an ongoing investigation. Owens, 37, was wanted on a fugitive warrant, but the U.S. Marshals Service hasn’t said what it was for. The agency also said in a statement that he had a gun when members of a fugitive task force approached. Multiple witnesses contend that’s not true.

Lebanese Man Drives Car with only Solar Power

Lebanon, like many countries, have severe have severe fuel shortage/cost. One man has an answer–for him. He uses solar power to run his car instead of gasoline. If he an engineer? No. He’s a mechanic.

This raises the question, why aren’t more car makers trying this approach?. If he can do it why not everyone else. Maybe because the fossil fuel industry doesn’t want it to happen? And governments are heavily influenced by the power of the oil industry.

Steve Bannon is Being Indicted

Steve Bannon is expected to surrender Thursday to face New York state charges related to his fundraising effort to build a wall along the southern US border, people familiar with the matter say.

The state charges, which have been returned in an indictment, are based on the same conduct Bannon was charged with by federal prosecutors in 2020. Then-President Donald Trump pardoned Bannon on the federal fraud charges related to the alleged scheme as he was leaving office. Presidential pardons do not apply to state investigations.

Neo-Nazi Patriot Front Marched in Indiana

Members of the hate group, Patriot Front, were seen marching in downtown Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon as they chanted “reclaim America,” according to videos circulating online.

A number of videos appeared on Twitter showing the group marching together, with some beating on drums while others carried signs and could be heard chanting. One video of the march was posted by Twitter user @pope_brendictus, who called the group “Nazis,” gained 1.7 million views as of Sunday afternoon.
